How do I find a therapist or counsellor?

May 22, 2020

You may feel you would like to talk with a therapist or counsellor, but do not know where to begin in your search. Therapy can be beneficial for caregivers who have become isolated, overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or who lack support from others. However, it can also be preventative, part of a caregivers self-care and mental well-being plan.

We have provided a list of resources for private and public counselling. In your search, you may wish to consider the therapist’s/counsellor’s experience, their training, and approaches used. Many offer free consultation calls. It may also be useful to have a counsellor who is experienced with the healthcare system as well as home and community health and life transitions.
