FCBC Volunteer Profile: Bonnie Davoren

April 28, 2022

To celebrate National Volunteer Week 2022, we are profiling a new FCBC volunteer each day this week! Today, we feature a Q&A with our fantastic volunteer, Bonnie Davoren.

Name: Bonnie Davoren

Volunteer Role: Facilitator for Victoria in-person support group

Why I chose to volunteer with FCBC: I saw so many caregivers suffer with system frustrations, being very over whelmed, dealing with anger and guilt. I believe in educations and connections with caregivers to give them strength, support. Helping to make them visible and possible help with peace of mind.

My personal caregiving experience and/or association is/has been: I mainly had to deal with long distance caregiving and therefore giving family as much support as I could. with phone calls and visits as often as possible. Also connecting with medical professionals and translating information for family members.

Upon reflection of your volunteer investment, my favourite part of working with FCBC/family caregivers is: It is wonderful to see the caregivers smile and laugh in our group. As well see them realize there is help and they are not alone.

What would you say to others who may be interested in becoming a FCBC volunteer?  It is a wonderful and full filling way to give back to our community and the wellbeing of caregivers and ourselves.

Favourite quote/motto or words of wisdom for other caregivers: Looking after yourself is so important, because what will happen to the person you are caring for if something happens to you?
