VCH Adult Day Center Programs: Where Caring Makes Community Thrive

February 28, 2023

VCH Adult Day Center Programs: Where Caring Makes Community Thrive

In Vancouver Coastal Health clients attend Adult Day Center programs in their community on average 1-2 days per week and are met by knowledgeable and caring staff.  The day center offers a variety of services such as:

  • Therapeutic social and recreational activities,
  • Special events and seasonal celebrations,
  • Fall prevention education and movement classes,
  • Health monitoring of weight, blood pressure, nutrition, and foot care, and
  • Respite for caregivers and as well as caregiver support groups, information, and education.

These centers generally operate during weekdays and some are offered on weekends. All sites operate with enhanced safety and security measures to ensure the best quality experience possible for clients and their families.

What to expect

Clients can expect to be warmly welcomed with a morning refreshment before the start of the day’s events. A hot meal is served at noon and is followed by additional programming and activities before returning home by HandyDART or another source of transportation. Throughout the day there are many opportunities to get active and connect with others. Our clients are showing us that new skills can be learned, new friendships can be forged, and new experiences are welcomed at any age. Read what one caregiver had to say about Adult Day Program;

“Hi there, my name is Thomas, I am my wife’s caregiver. I would like to take this time to thank all the staff at the Jackson Lam Adult Day Care Center. My wife Lean is in a wheelchair and it is hard to get around. The care they have done for me and my wife is out of this world. They are the best. She is very happy to go there, and so am I. She has Parkinson. We have been married for over 34 years. She was an OR Nurse for UBC for over 27 years and I was a Tugboat Captain for 30 years. It is very hard looking after her at times, but when she goes to the center and sees her friends, she is very happy. The staff are like family, and she has made some new friends. They all took the time to look after her very well, it gives me time to get things done around the house, shop, clean and other things. I cannot say all the great things they do for her and me.  I could not give her all my love, and the care she needs by myself.

So thank you very much, I can go on and give her the best I can.

Love you all,

Thomas

PS Thanks, I wish I was better with words to say how great and caring they are.”
