Throughout May, National Caregiver Month is celebrated across Canada to acknowledge and celebrate the 8 million people providing care to a family member, friend, neighbor, or chosen family across the country. The caregiver role is significant, caregivers provide over 80 % of unpaid care to those who need it, reducing the social costs associated with health services including long-term care.
Family Caregivers of BC (FCBC) supports caregivers by providing access to information, education, and support that enable caregivers to feel more confident and successful in their role. FCBC works hard to make the invisible caregiving role, visible within our society, community circles, and the healthcare system. In celebration of Caregiver Month, FCBC is sponsoring the online screening of, Caregivers in the Wild with Dr. Mike Lang.
Register and join our evening event, where we will watch three short episodes of caregivers sharing their stories in nature, and then we will have Dr. Mike, caregivers, and an expert discuss caregiver themes and topics. You will have an opportunity to participate in and share your caregiving experience too. FCBC will share supportive resources and information on programs we offer to caregivers in British Columbia. Caregivers in the Wild highlights the unique stories of caregivers, which contribute to our collective understanding of what it means to care.
