FCBC Survey on the Impact of COVID-19 on Family Caregivers

We are reaching out to YOU. This is your chance to be heard as a family/friend caregiver in BC. No matter who you care for, where you live in the province or where your care recipient lives (in the community or in facility-based care) – we want to hear from you.

The survey will take roughly 15 minutes of your time. The results will be used to advocate for family/friend caregivers with health leaders and policy makers. We will present evidence about the invaluable role caregivers play in our healthcare system, both provincially and nationally. As well, we will be listening carefully in order to respond to your needs through our programs and services. Please add your voice.

How to participate: Click here to take the survey online. All input is completely confidential.

If you aren’t able to complete the survey online, you can call our Caregiver Support Line (1-877-520-3267) and we will help you by telephone.

Workshops & Webinars

Facebook Live: Surviving the Holidays

While holidays bring opportunities for joy and traditions, they can also bring feelings of overwhelm. Add COVID-19 and stressed-out caregivers may view the holidays as more of an energy drain than a joy. In this webinar we will cover holiday hot buttons and strategies for more joy, tempered expectations and less stress.

When: December 8th at 9 am

Facebook Live: Self-Compassion

Join Kate Landreth for a 10-minute Self-Compassion Mindfulness Practice. Kate will guide you through a practice that encourages you to pause, be aware of your experience and your body, mind and spirit. We will welcome in deep breathing and kindness to help support and regulate the nervous system.

When: December 10th at 9 am

We are looking for a home-based independent contractor to support the implementation of our provincial Caregiver Rx Project.  The Caregivers Rx Project aims to work collaboratively with Primary Care Networks (PCN’s) and other Integrated Care Communities to embed identification, support and inclusion of caregivers as partners in care.

Virtual Caregiver Support Groups

Victoria Virtual Caregiver Group

This is a time for reassurance, where caregivers can realize they are not alone. This group is facilitated by our volunteer Bonnie Davoren.

When: Dec. 2nd, 1:30-3:00 pm (1st Wednesday of each month)

To join the group, contact our Family Caregiver Support Line at 1-877-520-3267 Ext 1 or email

Virtual Caregiver Support Groups

We offer two regular support groups:

Our weekly Caregivers Connect: BC’s Virtual Support Group (2nd and 4th Thursday of every month from 2-3:30pm), brings people from across the province together around a mutual experience of caregiving for a family member or friend. This is a time for reassurance, where caregivers can realize they are not alone.

And, the BC Men's Virtual Support Group (next on Dec. 8th) for men to come together to connect, receive support and share experiences as caregivers. Our group is led by experienced facilitators.

Community-based Events

Giving Tuesday - Dec. 1st

Giving Tuesday is a global movement for giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Black Friday. The “Opening day of the giving season,” it’s a time when charities, companies and individuals join together and rally for favourite causes.

It also encourages and amplifies small acts of kindness, across Canada and around the world.

Today, CanadaHelps will donate an additional $2 for each donation that is $20 or more, to a maximum aggregate amount of $30,000 CAD. Donors will receive a tax receipt for the value of their donation through CanadaHelps. Offer is valid for one-time donations made via CanadaHelps.org including Cause Funds, Custom Donation Forms on charity partner websites, and Peer-to-Peer Fundraising.

Movemeber Improvement Workshop (for Seniors & Caregivers)

Studies show that too cold or hot weather may pose a barrier to outdoor physical activities so some people prefer to have access to indoor workout opportunities. This situation has even worsened since the pandemic started.

Burnaby Seniors Outreach will hold an online Physical Activity session with the topic of Movement, Improvement (mix of guided meditation, physical activity and dance) on Friday, December 4, 1:00- 2:00 pm by Parham Elmi Kinesiologist.

Invitation link provided upon RSVP to faryar@bbyseniors.ca.
