Family Caregivers of BC (FCBC) proudly and compassionately supports over one million people in British Columbia that provide physical and/or emotional care to a family member, partner, friend or neighbour. FCBC supports caregivers by providing access to information, education, and supports that enable caregivers to feel more confident and successful in their role. FCBC provides leadership to strengthen the voice of family caregivers and the significance of their role. We engage with health sectors, social sectors, and caregivers to find ways to include caregivers as partners in care and in health care system improvement efforts. Established in 1989, FCBC is a not-for-profit registered charity funded by Ministry of Health, United Way Greater Victoria, and Island Health.
Our Priorities
Provide direct support to caregivers through one-on-one emotional support, caregiver support groups, health care system navigation resources, and free information such as our eNews, blogs, and Caregiver Connection Magazine.
Educate caregivers and health care providers through free webinars, workshops and caregiver support group facilitator training.
Our Mission
To improve the quality of life for family caregivers through support, information, and education. We provide leadership to strengthen the voice of family caregivers and the significance of their role.
Our History
We began in 1989 as the Family Caregivers’ Network Society, a not-for-profit registered charity dedicated 100% to supporting family caregivers – the first organization of its kind in Canada. In 2010 we took on the provincial champion role after the Caregivers Association of BC closed its doors. We transitioned to our new public name in 2014 to better reflect serving family and friend caregivers across the province.
