This session will explore practical strategies for resolving conflicts that arise in caregiving. Topics include changing care needs, end-of-life decisions, financial strains, and differing family perspectives. Attendees will gain tools to prepare for challenging conversations and learn about mediation and conflict coaching. Designed for caregivers, this session offers insights to foster understanding, collaboration, and effective communication in complex caregiving dynamics.

About The Presenters:
Sharon Sutherland, Executive Director of Mediate BC, is a Registered Roster Mediator (RRM) and lawyer with expertise in conflict resolution training and program design. Since 1996, she has worked in areas such as civil disputes, workplace, Indigenous decision-making, child protection, and elder care. Sharon’s personal experience with elder care has driven her focus on self-determination for care recipients. Her contributions earned her an Honorary LL.D. from the Justice Institute of BC (2021) and the Susanna Jani Prize for Excellence in Mediation (2011).
Lori Frank, Director of Child Welfare Initiatives with Mediate BC, is a skilled facilitator and mediator. With personal caregiving experience, she has guided her own family through aging-related decisions. Lori’s work emphasizes empathy, practical tools, and trauma-informed approaches to conflict resolution. She mediates in family, child protection, workplace, and nonprofit sectors.Time
