Bill Israel was one of the most interesting, kind, and loving people who shared his time with Family Caregivers of BC.
Many in our community knew Bill as the voice and host of Caregivers Out Loud. For the past six years, his steady presence, thoughtful questions, and gentle humour supported caregivers through conversations on a wide range of topics. He had a remarkable ability to make people feel comfortable, heard, and understood.
Bill also generously facilitated our Intensive Journal Writing workshops, creating space for caregivers to reflect on their experiences and make sense of them in ways they often never had before. Through these workshops, he helped many people find clarity, insight, and connection with themselves.
As an advocate for Family Caregivers of BC, and for many other organizations, Bill gave his time freely and wholeheartedly. What stood out most was not only what he contributed, but how he showed up. Whether he was supporting staff, volunteers, podcast guests, or caregivers, he was fully present. You could feel that what you said, and who you were, genuinely mattered to him. That is a rare gift.
Bill’s wisdom, generosity, warmth, and humanity left a lasting impact on our organization and on the many caregivers whose lives he touched. We are deeply grateful for the years he spent with FCBC and for the care he brought to every conversation and workshop.
He will be greatly missed.
