The one thing that is certain about caregiving is that nothing is certain. That is why having a caregiver support plan can be very helpful. Creating a personal caregiving plan is driven by your needs and is tailored to what will give you the greatest support to reduce emotional and physical stress. Beginning with identifying your needs as the caregiver, this document will help you keep sight of your health and wellbeing when creating a plan for providing care.

The flipbook discusses the importance of creating a self-care plan to avoid burnout and creating a contingency plan so that your care recipient is taken care of in the case that you are suddenly unable to care for your care recipient. This resource outlines the benefits of a support plan, step-by-step instructions on how to curate a plan unique to you, the importance of identifying your needs, contingency planning, and the support available to you (and how to reach out for that support).

Without seeming disrespectful or uncaring, we encourage caregivers to conceptualize their caregiver support plan like they would a project, and to break down their caregiver role into actionable steps that feel less overwhelming. This flipbook will provide caregivers with a foundation to begin considering challenges like their care recipient(s) experiencing health setbacks, which activities require their presence, and which could be an opportunity for some respite, and more.
